On August 30, 2019, the Federal Financial Institutions Examination Council (FFIEC)announced the availability of Home Mortgage Disclosure Act (HMDA) information collected for 2018. The HMDA data was collected from 5,683 financial institutions that were required to report up to 48 mortgage data points, including information about applicants, the property securing the loan, credit score, etc. Many of the data points are being reported for the first time due to the 2015 HMDA changes. Among the observations from the 2018 HMDA data is the number of financial institutions reporting HMDA data dropped by 2.9% from the previous year. The total number of originated loans decreased by 12.6% from the previous year. The median total loan costs for originated closed-end loans was $3,949 while the median interest rate for originated closed-end loans was 4.8%. The most commonly reported age group for applicants was 35-44.
