Evolving internal systems to match business growth–a good, but difficult, problem to have.

Unlike many small to mid-sized companies that have been facing the reality of a shrinking client base and subsequent reduction in workforce, DLN had a dramatically different obstacle to push past: rapid and sustained growth. While a good “issue” to have, the leadership at DLN knew the way they adapted their processes and project tracking to match their expansion was pivotal to their continued success. It had to be a robust solution that was also smart, quick and seamless. They could no longer sustain their business using several software applications strung together. Plus, with the constantly fluctuating industry, it was imperative they had a crystal-clear view of their company’s performance in real time.

“We desperately needed a more efficient way to track projects and spending so our leadership team could see how the company was performing at any given time,” said Brandon Dahn, Controller, DLN.

Added to the challenge of transparent tracking was the need to add more people. DLN onboarded 27 new full-time employees within just two years, with many operating remotely and from different states. Having a cloud-based system would allow everyone access to the same project information, providing consistency and efficiency.


DLN looked to Beene Garter, A Doeren Mayhew Firm to evaluate their situation and offer a solution. Based on their request for proactive management of critical financial and operational metrics and a desire for increased efficiency, Beene Garter, A Doeren Mayhew Firm selected the new Sage Intacct Construction project module to support their needs. As a single-point resource, Sage Intacct allowed DLN to put new client contract information into one system, which they now use to generate estimates, invoices, POs and project schedules. This diminishes the time required to compile and sort information and greatly reduces errors made when transferring data from multiple systems.

“Sage Intacct is extremely intuitive and has streamlined our billing process. We can go from PO to invoice, then have the invoice routed to the Project Manager for approval and out the door for payment in a fraction of the time,” said Dahn.

DLN continues to grow rapidly and is working closely with Beene Garter, A Doeren Mayhew Firm to implement new Sage Intacct modules that will help them keep up with their growing number of projects and employees. Recently, DLN worked with the Beene Garter, A Doeren Mayhew Firm team to add custom Sage Intacct features that further augment their estimating and billing systems.

The DLN leadership team is also now able to use custom dashboards to easily view current company performance. At any time, they can review data such as bank balances, AR/AP and forecasting analysis, helping them make quick decisions driven by insight rather than assumptions.
