TROY, MICH. – October 2, 2023 – Doeren Mayhew, a nationally recognized CPA and advisory firm, is pleased to announce it recently promoted five individuals to the firm’s principal ranks effective Oct. 1, 2023. The newly elected group of principals is comprised of professionals from the firm’s tax and audit groups.

This year’s advancing class includes the following individuals:
Matthew Buchta, CPA, leverages over 30 years of experience working with family-owned businesses, providing proactive federal and state tax planning. Located in the Houston office, Matthew guides clients through a wide array of business scenarios, ensuring a seamless resolution of any tax challenges that may arise.
Adam Huss, CPA, is an audit principal in the firm’s Troy office, where he began his career almost 10 years ago. Adam works closely with the firm’s construction, manufacturing, service and retail clients to oversee their assurance engagements, prepare their financial statements and provide business advisory services.
Erica Knight, CPA, has over 15 years of experience in federal tax accounting, compliance, research and planning for privately held companies and individuals. Located in our Houston office, Erica assists clients with implementing tax-planning strategies to ensure compliance with tax regulations, drive continuous process improvements and reduce tax liabilities.
David Thrush, CPA, MSA, specializes in accounting, audit, assurance, and merger and acquisition advisory services for a variety of industries. David is a leader in the firm’s Troy Employee Benefit Plan Group, where he has a deep understanding of regulations surrounding employee benefit plans and is relied on to provide annual defined contribution, defined benefit, employee stock ownership and cash balance plan audits, as well as other employee benefit plan consulting engagements.
Justin Hawkes, CPA, has over nine years of experience in public accounting. Located in the firm’s Grand Rapids office, he provides audits, reviews and compilations to those in the non-profit, real estate, multi-family housing, distribution and manufacturing industries. With a special focus on non-profit entity reporting, he is often relied on for his expertise in performing in-depth federal award audits under Uniform Guidance, audits according to governmental auditing standards, and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and Michigan State Housing Development Authority regulations.

Mike Czarnota, CPA, MST, joined our Troy office in August 2023, bringing more than 25 years of experience providing tax services to publicly traded, private-equity owned and privately held businesses.
Vivian Peng, CPA, joined our Houston office in June 2023, where she leverages her 25 years of experience, including time in the Big 4, to provide tax compliance and advisory services for private family offices, high-net-worth individuals and privately held companies.
