With a new filing season coming soon, the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts (the Comptroller) recently announced that Texas Franchise tax filers will receive their due date reminders via email in lieu of a mailed reminder, effective 2021. If a tax filer does not have an email address on file, a mailed reminder notice will be sent.

Texas franchise filers are encouraged to follow these steps to ensure they receive all relevant tax communication from the Comptroller’s office moving forward:

  • Create a Webfile account. The Comptroller uses Webfile for Texas tax filers to pay and report certain taxes electronically. Electronic filing is highly encouraged for faster account updates and is mandatory for no-tax-due returns.
  • Ensure your contact information is accurate. If your contact information is outdated, you may be missing important news or updates regarding your tax filings. To ensure your account is up to date, follow these steps:
    1. Log into your Webfile account.
    2. Select “Webfile/Pay Franchise Tax” and then the taxpayer number from the list.
    3. Access “Change Franchise Tax Mailing Address” to update your email address and/or mailing address, if needed.
