Professional Experience

Douglas Laird is an Audit Shareholder at Doeren Mayhew. With more than 15 years of auditing and accounting experience, businesses in the construction, automotive, health care, insurance and financial institutions industries have relied on him to provide valuable auditing insight. Working alongside clients throughout the audit process, he detects potential risks and provides recommendations to management through on-site meetings and presentations. Clients will find confidence in knowing all aspects of their audits are thoroughly assessed. Additionally, he is a member of the firm’s Audit Committee, and assists in the firm’s quality control process, ensuring clients receive sound accounting advice and quality risk assurance services.

Prior to joining the firm, Douglas gained experience completing complex audits, including capital market audits, through positions held at Freddie Mac. While working as a Manager at a Big Four accounting firm, he supervised complex SEC audit engagements and resolved technical issues through extensive research and recommendations.

Additionally, Douglas has facilitated accounting and auditing research projects as a Manager at the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB), a regulating body that establishes auditing rules for public companies, as well as enforces regulations prohibiting accounting misconduct. In this position, he identified and analyzed emerging audit and accounting risks, as well as issues and trends to communicate this information to the PCAOB Board and divisions within.
