Professional Experience

Stephen LaBarbera is a Shareholder at Doeren Mayhew in the firm’s Financial Institutions Group. For nearly 11 years, Stephen has provided audit and assurance services to credit unions and credit union service organizations. Leveraging his knowledge and experience gained from leading opinion audits and performing internal audit services, he serves as a year-round trusted advisor to the firm’s clients.

Throughout the course of engagements, he manages and supervises staff to execute a detailed and efficient engagement. Well adept to successfully meet the specific needs of each client, he works alongside financial institutions throughout the entire engagement process, proactively addressing concerns and offering recommendations.

With a knack for interpreting and advising on critical accounting standards updates, Stephen serves as a leader in the firm’s internal education programs, including participation in the Audit and Accounting Committee, providing industry updates and educational training to clients and co-workers alike on a wide range of accounting and auditing topics.

In addition, Stephen is a recognized speaker and author on a variety of credit union topics and is often called on to speak for national, regional and local technical and industry associations.
